When I first wrote about Keeper’s Heart, I missed out on one of its top products: the 43% Abv Irish+American Whiskey. The concept is deceptively simple—combine the best of both worlds, blending Irish Malt and Grain Whiskeys with American Rye to create a completely new style of whiskey. Clearly, they’re doing something right!

Their range includes blends of Irish and Bourbon as well as the Rye blends, both in standard strength and cask strength. My predilection for malt whiskeys leans more toward favoring the rye blends. As you all likely know by now, I’m not much of a bourbon fan (There. I said it. Please don’t hate on me!). Like its other offerings, this whiskey is matured for over four years in ex-fill bourbon casks (Irish) and new American Oak (Rye) and is blended with an eye toward smoothness. And it is a smooth whiskey.

The whiskey pours a light golden amber, immediately releasing a notable floral aroma. The grain and spice are more subtle than the other offerings, backed by hints of biscuits, savory herbs, and mown grass. The mouthfeel is soft and slightly round but light and is somewhat dryer than its “big brothers.” Initial flavors of lemongrass and grapefruit lead to savory and baking spices, with hints of caramel, burnt brown sugar, vanilla taffy, and corn. The finish is moderately long, starting with a hint of sweetness but drying toward the end. The finish is like a mouthful of creamy lemon custard.

Keeper’s Heart is clearly onto something unique and special. I can’t wait to see (and taste) what’s next!
