Kentucky-based whiskey authority Fred Minnick singled out Barrell Craft Spirits as the Best American Whiskey of 2018 in Forbes magazine, and the Louisville operation’s latest limited-release bourbon keeps the distillery’s reputation solidly in that firmament.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the third release of Bourbon within the Barrell Craft Spirits Line,” says founder Joe Beatrice. “For this annual release, we identified and blended some exceptional barrels to taste that are defined by absolute balance and deep flavor layering.”
Known for its distinctive cask-strength whiskey and rum offerings, the new Barrell Craft ultra-premium blend hits the bottle at 104.9 proof, marrying straight bourbons from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana matured for no less than 15 years to create a complex and intense depth of flavor.
Earthy mineral notes, spice and tart fruit hit the nose first, paving the way into oak and rich toasted nuts on the palate. The product doesn’t need much taming, but adding a dash or two of water results in a creamier mouthfeel.
Nestled into a handsome black storage case, the new BCS Bourbon retails for $250, available online and through select retailers across 45 U.S. markets.
