Premium gins coming in at under $35 a bottle aren’t easy to find, but The Old G delivers a spirit that will appeal to traditional gin lovers while also welcoming newcomers into the fold. A silky London Dry Gin, The Old G was recently awarded a Gold medal for the gin category at the most recent 50 Best Spirits blind tasting. Characterized by a nice juniper bite, its exceptionally smooth finish makes it eminently sippable on its own neat and on-the-rock in a gin and tonic. The Old G, which launched last July, is the result of an unusual collaboration between artist Hebru Brantley and industry veteran Peter Ibrahim — an unusually fortunate occurrence for gin aficionados.

Brantley is considered a visionary — a contemporary artist whose work is collected by LeBron James, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Lenny Kravitz, and George Lucas, and whose brand collaborations include Adidas, Lego, and Chance the Rapper. Ibrahim has worked with major brands such as Bacardi, Jameson, and Bombay Sapphire.

And the namesake Old G’s? Those are the neighborhood pillars, the porch storytellers, the folks supporting their communities and the people in them — people Brantley might have known while growing up in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood before his talent and vision took him to the top of the art world. An artist who loves superheroes and comic books, Brantley’s most well-known characters are two young adventurers, Fly Boy and Lil Mama, who gain the ability to fly and become superheroes in the vein of World War II’s heroic Tuskegee Airmen. His short film ‘Erax’ is available on Netflix.

The two men met when Brantley was collaborating with Bombay Sapphire.

“Through his knowledge and just overall energy, we vibed,” Brantley shared with Cassius Life, an edgy men’s online magazine. “We became fast friends. When it came time for Peter to venture out on his own, he asked me to come direct some of the creative angles. It was a no-brainer for me.”

Together, they brought The Old G to life.

“It was our goal to create a Gin that stands deliciously on its own, without the need for any modifiers or mixers to enhance its exceptional taste,” said Ibrahim, who serves as Head of Brand and Founder. “We also wanted to create a product that gives a voice to underrepresented communities. As an Egyptian teaming up with a prominent Black artist [Brantley is Head of Creative], it was crucial to build a brand that reflects our upbringing, struggles, and our perseverance in this industry.”

Tasting Notes

The minimalist Brantley-designed black bottle offers a distinctive and carefully orchestrated blend of botanicals with prominent citrus, cucumber, and pine aromas. Sunny juniper berries are lightened by bright and refreshing orange and lemon peels, intensified with licorice and orris roots, and accented with coriander and cardamom. Its long aftertaste offers hints of pink peppercorn and a nice minerality.

The Old G retails for $34.99 for a 750 ml bottle, an affordable price point for a spirit crafted from organic botanicals distilled nine times and infused with oxygen for two days. It’s currently available for delivery to 32 states and in retail outlets in Florida, Georgia, Utah, Iowa, California, Illinois, New York, and New Jersey, with other states coming soon.

The brand is committed to social responsibility, partnering with organizations that uplift communities and embody diversity and inclusion.
